Student Spotlight - Jayna Singleton

Jayna Singleton

Jayna Singleton is a Senior Criminal Justice major, from Rockcastle, KY.  In addition to her major, Jayna is pursuing a Psychology minor and a Homeland Security certificate in Intelligence Studies with a threat specialty. Over the summer of 2022, Jayna was accepted into the Pathway’s Student Trainee position for the U.S. Secret Service, Lexington Resident office.

In speaking about her time with the U.S. Secret Service, Jayna said "I’ve known from a young age I wanted to work within Federal Law Enforcement, so having the opportunity to work alongside the agents has been an unbelievably rewarding experience.  Joining briefings, reviewing documents and currency, and helping with cases have not only allowed me to learn firsthand about the field I am pursuing, but it has also reassured my love for the field of criminal justice. Beginning my internship has been the perfect foot-in-the-door experience.  Not only have I made connections within the U.S. Secret Service, but I have also been able to make connections and network within adjacent agencies as well. Additionally, the USSS and those within it have introduced me to many different career paths within the federal government I had not even considered before, as well as given me the opportunity to begin the application process for future positions.”

We in the School of Justice Studies are very impressed with Jayna, both her academics and her drive to pursue a career with federal law enforcement. She is an asset to our School and to EKU and will undoubtedly be successful in her career aspirations.
