Student Spotlight-Gracie Barkley
Gracie Barkley, a current Police Studies major in the School of Justice Studies, is this year's winner of the Kentucky Women's Law Enforcement Network's Student Achievement Award. Nominated by her Instructor Joseph McClure who is also Chief of Police at Transylvania University, this award recognizes a student who has, through focused areas of study and high academic achievement, shown a commitment to law enforcement and public safety.
Gracie is 21 years old and just moved to Kentucky in December 2021. She received her Associates degree in Criminal Justice from Harper College in IL and is now enrolled at EKU. In speaking about her time in the School of Justice Studies, Gracie says, "My time at EKU has been great so far and I look forward to my final two semesters. I got the chance to attend a class with Professor Chief McClure and he helped me get to where I am today with my career goals in law enforcement. The more classes I have gotten to take in the Police Studies program the more my interest in this career has increased, making me determined to achieve my goals." We in the School of Justice Studies are very proud of Gracie's achievements and can't wait to see her continue to excel as she works towards graduation and a career in law enforcement.
