Congratulations to Dr. Shannon Williams

Shannon D. Williams, a full-time Instructor in the School of Justice Studies, completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Tennessee. His dissertation, titled, “A Contribution to the Critique of Labor Share Analyses,” followed up on his earlier research published in the prestigious Cambridge Journal of Economics (2015). “It provides a sophisticated economic test of the widespread claim that a general redistribution between capitalists and workers occurred during the neoliberal decades leading up to the 2008 recession.” The final analysis provides evidence for a more traditional political economic explanation for economic inequality.

Dr. Williams intends to send at least two papers out for review from this work to leading journals in the field. He also intends to apply these same types of political economic analyses to issues facing the field of crime and justice studies in future academic work, and in the classroom. Dr. Williams grew up in Eastern Kentucky and graduated from EKU with a B.A. in Sociology.
